This translation of the sacred text of the Old Testament is the fruit of a painstaking and long-lasting effort, about thirty years old, the foundations of which were laid by her late professor. Old Testament at the University of Athens and Director of the Apostolic Ministry Vassilios Vellas.
The rendering in the modern Greek language of the 39 books of the Old Testament, the original of which is written in Hebrew, was made by the critical edition of the Hebrew text Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia.
For the books whose original is in Greek, their performance was made by the also critical edition of the text of the Seventy (OD) A. Rahlfs, "Septuaginta".
The choice to translate the Hebrew text of the Old Testament was made for scientific reasons and, moreover, to be the basis for the future translation of the text of the OD, which is also planned by the Hellenic Bible Society.
